Hunterdon County Polytech’s Aesthetics program helps a 30-year-old business reach new markets through the addition of skincare services. This expansion was as a result of one of the business owners becoming a licensed aesthetician through Polytech’s Adult & Continuing Education program; a testament to the county’s career and technical school’s impact in the community and beyond its borders.
David Clark of The Village Salon in Pennington left the IT world in New York City several years ago to join his wife, Karen, in her salon. To continue the expansion of services offered, David took Polytech’s Aesthetics program to become a licensed aesthetician. Today, the salon has grown from four chairs to ten and, with David’s aesthetics license, their skincare offerings have doubled. David is the salon’s manager and specializes in microdermabrasion and chemical peels. “Attending Polytech has given me the perspective I previously lacked; I appreciate my employees more. I am also more prepared to manage the salon and our skincare division because I have first-hand knowledge of what is required. The aesthetics program was an educationally enriching experience that helped me in countless ways and continues to do so to this day,” said Mr. Clark.
Gina-Marie Winkler teaches Polytech’s Aesthetics Program in a clinical setting that helps guide students on the path to new career opportunities. Gina has over 20 years of experience as a licensed cosmetology and skincare specialist providing salon services, mentoring and training new employees, and managing day-to-day salon operations. She has also taught cosmetology and aesthetics at Cutting Edge Academy and Artistic Academy. With Gina’s knowledge in cosmetology, aesthetics, business and education, Polytech students receive a well-rounded education focused on the development of their technical skills.
Since Instructor Winkler and Hunterdon County Polytech’s Skin Deep Aesthetics Clinic opened its doors to the public this year, over 300 clients have received services including “Age Defying” facials, “Lift Me Up” eye treatments, and specialized acne treatments. The clinic closes for the school year May 12th and has limited appointments still available. As a continued service to the community, Instructor Winkler is offering a free prom makeup demonstration on Wednesday, May 27th from 3-6:00 pm to assist young women interested in applying their own makeup for the upcoming prom season. She is also offering makeup application services on June 5th from 12-3:00 pm for those going to prom that evening.
An information session will be held May 6th from 7-8pm with the opportunity to visit the clinic, meet the instructor, and learn more about the program.
