Alfred B. Amendolara, MD, 84

Little Egg Harbor: Alfred B. Amendolara, MD, 84 of Little Egg Harbor, formerly of Lambertville and Ridgewood, NJ passed away Tuesday May, 10, 2016.


Born in the Bronx, NY to the late Joseph and Josephine Maglio Amendolara, he lived most of his life in Ridgewood. He received his medical degree from the University of Padua, Padua, Italy. He served in the United States Army as a physician, being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. His active duty was served in Panama.


Following his return to Ridgewood, he established a private practice in Family Medicine which he maintained for forty years. He was a longtime active member of the medical staff of Valley Hospital, Ridgewood. During his tenure at Valley Hospital, he served as President of the Medical Staff and Director of Family Practice, President of the Bergen County Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, President of the Bergen County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, Chairman of the Judicial Committee of the Bergen County Medical Society and Director of Medical Services for the Ridgewood and Waldwick School Systems.


After moving to Lambertville, he was an active member of the Medical Staff at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, NJ.


He was a member of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Lambertville. Al was an avid sports fan and enthusiastic racquetball player.


He is survived by his loving wife Joan Denise (Napoleon) Amendolara, and son Alfred B. Amendolara, Jr., Robert, Ellen, James and Lisa Amendolara, sister Helen MacDonald and her husband Raymond, brother Victor Amendolara, brother-in-law Douglas W. Napoleon, sister-in-law Olga Napoleon, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his sister Dr. Filomena Amendolara, sister-in-law Doris Amendolara and brother-in-law Lawrence T. Napoleon, Jr.


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 18 at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 44 Bridge St., Lambertville, NJ. Burial with military honors will take place at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd. Newtown, Pa. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St., Lambertville, NJ.
