Dunellen, NJ—Alfred J. Smith, 69, died on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-New Brunswick, NJ with loving family at his side. Born and raised in Bronx, NY, son of James and Rosemary (Marsala) Smith, he had lived in Dunellen for the past 15 years.
Alfred was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. He later served his country for five years in the Army National Guard. He loved Irish music and playing “words with friends”.
Alfred was predeceased by his daughter Carrie Ann Smith in 1999 and brother Robert Smith in 2013.
Besides his mother, Alfred is survived by his wife Janet Smith; three sons, Terrance Smith of Baldwin, NY, Aerin Smith of Bronx, NY and Matthew of Staten Island; brother James Smith of Whitehouse Station; Niece Shannon; nephews James, Ryan and Thomas and four grandchildren; Kari Diana, Harrison, Nicholas and Gabriella.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Tuesday, May 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 27 from 9:45-10:15 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27 beginning 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges, NJ.
