Anthony Tierno, age 73 years, of Delaware Township, NJ, died on Monday, May 18, 2015 at his residence.
Born February 3, 1942 in Plainfield, NJ, he was the son of the late Louis and Mary Trepiccione Tierno and had resided in Delaware Township forty-six years.
Tony was formerly Fitness Director and later Master Trainer at Health Quest, Raritan Township, NJ. He was involved with the New Jersey Special Olympics since 1986, training power lifters who brought home four World Games Championships.
The recipient of numerous awards, he was named Citizen of the Year awarded by the Flemington Elks Lodge.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-one years, Linda “Lyn” Gaska Tierno; three sisters, Ann Marie LaPatta of Pt. Pleasant, NJ, Diane Cizs of South Plainfield, NJ, and Mary Barrow of Montclair, NJ; two brothers, Louis Tierno of Pt. Pleasant, NJ, and Joseph Tierno of Green Brook, NJ; several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews. Tony was also pre-deceased by a brother, Thomas Tierno.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
