@ approximately 4:33 PM – Police charged James Lazzarotti, age 56 of Hampton, NJ with assault by auto in reference to a motor vehicle crash which occurred on September 8, 2016. Information regarding the motor vehicle crash was provided in Press Release 16-025:


Thursday, September 8, 2016 @ approximately 1:17 PM – Police charged James Lazzarotti, age 56 of Hampton, NJ with driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance (Fentanyl) following a two vehicle crash on Klinesville Road. P.O. William McEnroe III and P.O. Adam Swiatek were on patrol in the area when they came upon the crash that had just occurred. Investigation on scene revealed the following: Lazzarotti was traveling south on Klinesville Road, in the area of Featherbed Lane, in a 2000 GMC pickup truck.


Lazzarotti’s vehicle crossed the double yellow center line and struck a 1994 Honda Civic nearly head on. The Honda Civic was being driven by Robert L. Greene, Jr., age 68 of Frenchtown, NJ. There were no other occupants in either vehicle. After the collision, Lazzarotti’s vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned coming to rest on its roof.


He was able to free himself from the vehicle while it was still overturned. Greene’s vehicle was propelled off of the roadway, coming to rest upright off of the north side of the roadway. Greene was entrapped in his vehicle due to extensive front end damage. He had to be extricated by members of the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad (FRFARS). Greene was transported to Morristown Medical Center, via ambulance, by the FRFARS due to an apparent back injury. Lazzarotti was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center, via ambulance, by the FRFARS for evaluation.


Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Lazzarotti was issued additional motor vehicle summonses for failure to maintain lane control and reckless driving. Additional charges pending further investigation. Investigation and arrest by P.O. William McEnroe III. The Raritan Township Fire Company, Quakertown Fire Company and Hunterdon Medical Center Paramedics also responded and assisted. The additional charge was filed after the blood / urine test results were returned from the State Police Lab. Lazzarotti was released after processing. Arrest by Det. Ryan Garbolino.
