AT 2 a.m. – with the children – driving around on Heroin and Methamphetamines

On Friday, July 3, at approximately 2:00 am, Sergeant Mathew Wilson and Patrolman Michael Akers were working a D.W.I. checkpoint on Route 31 North near Halstead Street when they approached a 1998 Nissan Sedan and observed that driver Robert Reed, age 41, of Clinton Township, appeared to be under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. Mr. Reed was subsequently found to be in possession of several bags of heroin and was therefore arrested and charged with Possession of Heroin, Being Under the Influence of Heroin, and Driving While Intoxicated. Two (2) juveniles were in the vehicle with Mr. Reed at the time and he was therefore additionally charged with Endangering the Welfare of Children. Passenger Linda McWilliams, age 41, also of Clinton Township, was found to be in possession of eight (8) bags of heroin, one (1) bag of methamphetamine, and thirteen (13) Tramadol pills. She was therefore arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Both were released ROR. The Readington Township Police Department K-9 unit and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office assisted with the D.W.I. checkpoint.
