Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, announced the arrest of one individual after a joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the New Jersey Department of Corrections Special Investigations Division.
According to Prosecutor Kearns, “On February 2, 2018, Ronald Coleman Jr., age 39, of Bethlehem Township, PA, was arrested and charged with seven counts of 2nd degree Official Misconduct, two counts of 2nd degree Sexual Assault, two counts of 2nd degree Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Assault, one count of 2nd degree Pattern of Official Misconduct, and three counts of 4th degree Criminal Sexual Contact. The arrest took place at his residence in Bethlehem, Pa. Mr. Coleman was lodged in Northampton County Jail and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.”
The joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the New Jersey Department of Corrections Special Investigations Division revealed that Mr. Coleman was employed as a Senior Correction Officer when he engaged in a sexual relationship with three inmates that were incarcerated at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Union Township. Mr. Coleman has been employed as a Correction Officer since September 2000. The Bethlehem Police Department assisted in the arrest of Mr. Coleman.
The filing of a criminal complaint is merely a step in the criminal justice process. The defendant is presumed innocent until the matter is resolved in a court of law.
