A Swiss born and award-winning artist, Marcel Juillerat, is currently showcasing over 20 medium to large scale works depicting nature’s finest from the Mercer County region, realistic still life paintings, as well as portraits of people and animals at Gallery 13 North in Lambertville, New Jersey. The gallery will host a closing reception of the exhibition, “The Life Works of Marcel Juillerat (b. 1942)”, on Saturday, October 21 from 2pm-5pm.
Curated by Majell Yerenburg, Director of Gallery 13 North, attendees can view a flow of traditional usage of light and shadow, transcending to complicated abstract pieces, all in one space. The show includes both a 36” x 36” realistic painting of waves crashing on the rock surface, as well as the emotional composition of his portrait pieces.
Juillerart’s work has received considerable attention both locally and nationally. He is known for his elaborate realistic quality use of oils and his polished work of implementing an impasto technique style on every piece of artwork. During his 40 years as a painter, Juillerat has already participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the region. Recently, he exhibited at the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York City and won the 2017 Catherine Lorillard Wolf Award for “Old Farm House”, a 24” x 30” oil on canvas piece.
Juillerat emerged in the early 1960s after earning his degree from La Chaux-de-Fonds School in Switzerland. Moving to USA in 1969, he worked for Tiffany & Co. as a designer before joining Lenox China where he designed the White House dinnerware for former first lady Nancy Reagan. In 2017, Juillerat’s artwork called “Delaware at Washington Crossing Bridge” was exhibited at Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, New Jersey.
The public will have the opportunity to meet Marcel Juillerat during the closing reception on Saturday, October 21 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. The solo exhibition, “The Life Works of Marcel Juillerat (b. 1942)”, is on view through the end of October.
