BARN fire on the State Department of Corrections farm

On Wednesday, April 15, at approximately 7:00 pm, Clinton Township officers were dispatched to a building fire on the State Department of Corrections farm property on East Main Street, adjacent to Foran Field. Upon arrival, officers observed that a barn containing hay was on fire. The Annandale Hose Company, High Bridge Fire Department, Lebanon Fire Department, Clinton Fire Department, and the North County Tender Task Force responded to fight the fire. The High Bridge Rescue Squad also responded. Officer Jennifer Petruzziello met with officers from State Department of Corrections who confirmed that the farm was state property. The scene was therefore turned over to the authority of the Department of Corrections.
An hour-and-a-half earlier, at approximately 5:25 pm, Patrolman Brian Dickson responded to the area of Foran Field for a report of a burning smell. Upon arrival, Ptl. Dickson was advised of a smell like a “burning clutch”. The caller advised that this was not the first time that he detected such a burning odor in the area. The smell had since dissipated. Although officers were unable to locate the source of the smell—and although no buildings were on fire—it is unknown whether the smell was somehow related to the barn fire that occurred 1.5 hours later
