Beverly R. Merchant, age 75

Beverly R. Merchant, age 75, of Glen Allen, VA passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, VA.
She was born on June 20, 1941 in Manhattan. She had resided in Glen Allen, VA since 2014, moving from Clinton, NJ where she lived for 33 years.
She was the daughter of the late Maurice and Molly S. Herman Blumberg.
Her husband, Floyd S. Merchant passed away in 2013 after 32 years of marriage.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Hunter College in New York City, studying Zoology and Biology.
Beverly started her career as a Biochemical Technician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, then worked for 35 years as a computer programmer at companies including AT&T, Ayerst Labs, Church & Dwight, and MetLife. Up until her retirement in 2013, Beverly was a part-time Office Manager for Pedals for Progress in High Bridge, NJ.
Beverly was an avid reader. She also enjoyed buying and selling antiques. She sold antiques to several stores in Hunterdon County and also online. She was involved with several support groups and enjoyed volunteering her time with them, mentoring many people over the years, both in New Jersey and Virginia. Beverly enjoyed going to exercise classes and in her younger years she loved to go skiing, kayaking, canoeing and hiking with her family.  She traveled extensively in both Europe and the United States.
Survivors include 2 sons; Kenneth N. Stern and his wife Sandra of Sandy Hook, VA and Arthur H. Merchant of Basking Ridge, NJ. 2 granddaughters; Samantha Stern and Cassidy Stern. 1 brother; Harvey Blumberg of NY.
Beverly is predeceased by her first husband, Kurt Stern who passed away in 2013.
Calling hours will be Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm – 9pm and on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 10am – 11am.  Funeral Service will be Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11am. All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
