@ approximately 10:07 AM – Police arrested Michael M. Guirguis, age 32 of Jersey City, NJ and charged him with shoplifting from Costco on Walter E. Foran Boulevard. Police were initially called to the store for a report of a male who removed a smart phone from the anti-shoplifting control device and attempted to leave the store with it. The male dropped the phone and ran when approached by store employees. Guirguis was located hiding in a wooded area not far from the store. He was taken into custody without incident.
Guirguis was also charged with possession of an anti-shoplifting countermeasure device and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Guirguis was additionally charged with shoplifting from the Verizon Wireless Zone store on Rt. 31. The theft of a display smart phone from that store was reported to police on May 3 at approximately 7:00 PM. Guirguis was identified in both incidents through video surveillance system footage and still pictures.
The smart phones in both incidents have a retail value greater than $500.00 but less than $75,000.00. The smart phone taken from the Verizon Wireless Zone was not recovered. Guirguis was turned over to the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Department to be lodged in the Somerset County Jail after processing. Arrests by P.O. Aaron Roth and Det. Scott Iglay.
