On Saturday Hunterdon Central hosted 6 other teams in a highly competitive dual meet. Wrestling during the day were Central, North, Voorhees Del Val, Woodbridge, Perth Amboy and Bridgewater. While all the matches were compelling the best of the day was the Voorhees Del Val match, the last of the day, which came down to the very last bout, the 106 pounders. With Voorhees up by one team point both teams needed at least a decision to win. The Voorhees wrestler was down four points with twelve seconds to go when he got a reversal and two points of back time to force the match into overtime. With fans on their feet the Del Val grappler got a take down to give Del Val the win. Unlike some sports where the teams walk off without mutual congratulations it was great all day to see the teams line up and shake hands when the battles were finished, showing that sportsmanship is still alive.
This week the team competitions begin and then the individual pursuit of state championships start, finishing in Atlantic City in just under a month. Take a look at some pics
