On Saturday, May 7, at approximately 9:05 pm, an officer stopped a 2003 Hyundai Elantra operated by Kelly Hartigan, age 36, of Clinton Township, for failing to maintain lane on Route 626 and Route 173. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Ms. Hartigan’s breath, observed an opened container of an alcoholic beverage inside of the vehicle, and soon determined that Ms. Hartigan was intoxicated. She was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she provided samples of her breath for chemical testing to determine the content of alcohol in her blood. The officer charged Ms. Hartigan with Driving While Intoxicated, Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage While Operating a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to Obtain a New Jersey Driver’s License (upon moving into New Jersey). She was additionally charged with Obstruction of Justice after refusing to allow the arresting officer to take her photograph during processing. She was released to the custody of a responsible adult and her vehicle was towed and impounded.
