At last night’s budget debate meeting in the town of Clinton two members of the audience suggested to the council that the DPW workers were loafing on the job, especially during the snow plowing season.
Councilmen Robert Smith and Ken Carberry were immediately at the defense of the town workers.
Smith, “ I’ll defend our people any time,” he snarled, “you have no idea what you are talking about.”
Carberry “ Our town of Clinton employees are remarkable. I am really proud of the job they do, they are really good.”
What many people fail to see is that these guys, especially in a brutal winter like this, are out there fixing water mains in five degree weather at 3 a.m. It’s a thankless job done for not a lot of money and they keep us safe on the roadways when we are trying to go to work in the mornings.
