A daring thief has once again made off with the huge inflatable duck that was to be floating in the South Branch of the Raritan River to announce the upcoming Great Hunterdon Rubber Ducky Race on July 16.

If you remember, the duck was taken last year, and luckily recovered shortly after.

It seems that another thief has decided that kidnapping the duck and holding it for ransom would be a good way to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and the The Cancer Support Community Central New Jersey, on behalf of the Clinton Sunrise Rotary and the Clinton Guild

A ransom note demanding $2,500 has been discovered.

Cans, complete with a copy of the ransom note, have been placed at Clinton Guild member businesses around the Town of Clinton.

People who are unable to donate in the Clinton area, but still wish for the safe return of the duck, can send their ransom donations to Clinton Sunrise Rotary at P.O. Box 5435 Clinton, NJ 08809. Concerned parties are asked to write “DUCK RANSOM” in the memo field of their checks.

The kidnappers have promised to provide “proof of life” photos in the lead-up to the Great Hunterdon Rubber Ducky Race on July 16.

The Great Hunterdon Rubber Ducky Race is celebrating it’s 28th year. All funds raised in the sale of Duckys goes to support people who have been affected by cancer through the research and prevention education of The American Cancer Society and The Cancer Support Community Central New Jersey which provides Gold Standard programs of support , education and hope, free of charge, for individuals and their loved ones after a diagnosis of cancer.
