On Monday, July 13, at approximately 2:00 pm, Patrolman Michael Akers responded to a township residence for a report of theft by deception. Upon arrival, Ptl. Akers met with the eighty-nine (89) year-old victim who advised that he (the victim) received a telephone call from someone claiming to be his grandson. The “grandson” advised that he was under arrest and needed $2,011.xx in bail money. The “grandson” then handed the phone over to his “attorney”, who identified himself as “Mr. Lewis Miller”, who confirmed the amount of bail money. Mr. “Miller” provided a telephone number of 1- 800-869-5578. The victim then drove to the A & P in Clinton and wired $2,011 to an “Alan Angelo” from New Jersey. Upon wiring the money, the victim contacted family members only to learn that his grandson had not been arrested and that the incident never occurred.
