David Lewis Thatcher, age 82 years, of Hellertown, PA., died Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Westminster Care Center, Allentown, PA.
Born in Ringoes, NJ, June 20, 1934, son of the late David and Blanche Madeley Thatcher, he had resided in Flemington most of his life, then in Lancaster ,PA. and for three years in North Carolina. He had resided in Hellertown since 2000.
Lew was a fork truck operator for Buck Foundry, Lancaster, PA . He was also a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Intrepid during the Korean War and was a 1952 graduate of
Flemington High School.
He was a member of the Hellertown American Legion Post and the Hellertown VFW Post. Lew was also a member of the Flemington Exempt Firemen’s Association and had actively served with the Flemington Fire Co. 1964-1972.
His wife, Joan Thatcher, died in 2000 and his brother, Robert Thatcher, died in 2004.
Surviving are three daughters, Cindy D’Avenia of Coopersburg, Pa., Sandy Vrabel of Frenchtown, NJ and Susan Sparks of Cowpens, SC.; three sons, Matt Thatcher of Flemington, NJ, Dave Thatcher of Lebanon, NJ and Chris Thatcher of Flemington, NJ; a sister, Kathleen Nodes of Flemington, NJ; seventeen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 10:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ. Calling hours will be Tuesday 7:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home.
A Memorial Service will be held on September 3, 2016 at 11 AM in the Mountainview Moravian Church, 331 Constitution Avenue, Hellertown, PA..
