Delphis L. St. Louis
Delphis L. St. Louis, 81, died on August 14, 2016 at St. Luke’s Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ.
He was born on December 22, 1934 in West Springfield MA the son of the late Adolphus and Leona (Roberts) St. Louis and lived in long Valley from 1944 to 1996 before relocating to Hunterdon County.
Del attended Hackettstown High School and served in the US Navy from September 1952 to December 1955 on the USS Coral Sea, in the Mediterranean Sea.
He worked as a conductor on the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and worked as an arborist & tree surgeon with Asplundh and Morris County Shade Tree Commission.
Del enjoyed a full career with the USPS as a rural mail carrier in Long Valley, Flanders, Chester, retiring in 1996 from the Far Hills office. He also served as a facilitator for the “Quality of Work Life” program for the USPS and as a president of the NJ National Rural Letter Carriers Association (NRLCA).
He was an avid gardener and was well traveled across the US.
Del is survived by two children, Scott St. Louis of Easton PA, Delann St. Louis of Boone, NC, two grandchildren, Ian & Eleanor Ipock, many stepchildren from his second and third wives and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Leona in 1948, Adolphus in 1979, and three wives. Barbara “Bobbie” (Weilhower) in 1975, Anna (Brooksbank) in 1994, Margaret (Frank) in 2010. His four siblings are, Mildred Jean (St. Louis) Samber, and Leona St. Louis, both deceased, and Lorraine (St. Louis) Apgar of Stuarts Draft, VA &, Edward St. Louis of Phoenix, AZ.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 8, 2016 at 2:30PM in the Zion Lutheran Church 1 Schooley’s Mountain Road, Long Valley, NJ 07853
