DRIVING AROUND DRINKING A SCREWDRIVER

On Sunday, May 17, at approximately 2:20 pm, Patrolman John Tiger was parked along Route 31 when he was approached by a passer-by who reported a possible intoxicated driver that had just passed his location. Ptl. Tiger located the vehicle, a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country, traveling Route 31 North, immediately observed it failing to maintain lane, and therefore stopped it near Dogwood Drive. Upon approaching the vehicle, Ptl. Tiger detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of driver Charles Wittkop 3rd, age 40, of Califon, and also observed a cup containing vodka and juice in the vehicle’s cup holder. Upon determining that Mr. Wittkop was intoxicated, Ptl. Tiger arrested him and transported him to police headquarters where Mr. Wittkop provided samples of his breath for chemical testing to determine the content of alcohol in his blood. Ptl. Tiger issued Mr. Wittkop numerous motor vehicle summonses, including Driving While Intoxicated, Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage While Operating a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to Produce Documents. He was released to the custody of a responsible adult and his vehicle was towed and impounded.
