On Saturday, July 25, at approximately 8:15 am, Patrolman Umair Latif approached a 1998 Toyota Tacoma that was parked on Dogwood Drive after responding to the area for a report of a possible intoxicated driver in a Toyota Tacoma. During the stop, Ptl. Latif detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage upon the breath of driver Edward Martin, age 45, of South Plainfield, and soon determined that he was intoxicated. Ptl. Latif arrested Mr. Martin and transported him to police headquarters where Mr. Martin provided samples of his breath for chemical testing to determine the content of alcohol in his blood. Ptl. Latif charged Mr. Martin with Driving While Intoxicated and Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage While Operating a Motor Vehicle. He was released to the custody of a responsible adult and his vehicle was towed and impounded.
