Edna L. McIntyre, age 98, passed away quietly in her home on Friday, September 8, 2017. She was born on February 27, 1919 in Richmond Virginia, the daughter of Norman Court Leffler and Irene Bauer Leffler. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Fairview, Pennsylvania where she grew up and graduated high school as valedictorian of her class. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in home economics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in foods and nutrition from Michigan State University.
Edna worked for Rutgers Cooperative Extension in Flemington, NJ as the county home agent, where she met her husband, William G. McIntyre. They were married in 1946, and enjoyed sixty years together until William’s passing in 2006. While raising her family at home in Lebanon, NJ, Edna served on the Hunterdon County Home Economics Advisory Council, and was an active member of the Clinton Women’s Club, at times serving as club president. Edna also served as a judge of foods and canned goods at the Flemington Agricultural Fair, and helped with suppers at the Round Valley Methodist Church where she was a supporting member.
Edna’s sister, Irene Lucero predeceased her in 1978.
Survivors include three children, William N. McIntyre of Washington, NJ, Nancy M. Roche of Lebanon, NJ and Richard A. McIntyre of Easton, PA; four grandchildren, Gerald McIntyre and his spouse Kim Geary of Lexington, MA, Rebecca Roche Pickin and her husband Ben Pickin of Grottoes, VA, Daniel McIntyre of Bloomsbury, NJ and Sarah Roche Jones of Charlotte, NC; three great-grandchildren; Cynthia McIntyre, Eleanor Pickin and Charlotte Pickin.
A gathering of friends will take place at the family home at 56 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 1-3pm to celebrate her life.
