Monroe Township – Elwood F. Linskey, 89, passed away on September 9, 2017, surrounded by his family. Born in Fairview, NJ, he was the eldest son of Elwood J. and Anna V. (Brennan) Linskey. He graduated from St. Cecilia’s High School in Englewood, NJ, where he played football under young Coach Vince Lombardi, who also taught Elwood’s Latin and Physics classes. He received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Bucknell University in 1951.
After graduating from Bucknell, he moved to the Chicago area to work for Corn Products Co., where he met and married his wife, LaVerne Anderson, in 1953. Elwood worked as a process engineer in research and development with Corn Products (later known as CPC International and now Unilever) for 46 years. He retired in 1996 as a Senior Scientist with CPC’s Best Foods Division, where he dedicated his later years to bringing the company’s Hellman’s Mayonnaise global manufacturing plants into the computer age. He was the 3rd generation to make a career at CPC, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who worked there for 50 and 35 years, respectively.
Elwood’s early career was detoured for service in the US Army from 1954 -1956, at Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, where he utilized his engineering background in small arms ammunition research and development.
After living in the Chicago and Philadelphia areas, and later Medfield, MA, he moved his family to Branchburg, NJ, where he lived for 39 years. More recently, as Elwood and LaVerne’s health needs changed, they moved closer to family in Monroe Township, NJ in 2009.
After the tragic loss of Branchburg Boy Scout Troop 185’s Scoutmaster in the 1970’s, Elwood stepped in to serve as Scoutmaster, which helped ensure the Troop’s continued existence. As a result of his Scouting support, both sons and his grandson became Eagle Scouts.
Proud and supportive of LaVerne’s first-generation Swedish heritage, Elwood served as President for the Skandia Lodge 356 Vasa Order of America. He also served as President of the Roadrunners Travel Club of South Plainfield, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Three Bridges.
Elwood always maintained a love of learning and a sharp intellect, with varied scholarly interests, including birding, politics, Bible study, and exploring the histories of Ireland, the Civil War, and the Papacy of the Catholic Church.
He was a loving, devoted father, husband, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, Elwood was predeceased by his wife, LaVerne on April 4, 2017 and his brother, Harold Linskey. Elwood leaves behind three loving and devoted children; Kathleen Linskey of Hinsdale, NH, Dr. Mark Linskey and wife JoAnne of Newport Beach, CA, and Paul Linskey, wife Lori, and grandchildren Ryan and Reilly of Princeton Junction, NJ, and his brother, Ronald, of Macungie, PA.
