Delaware Township, NJ– Emily Z. Mortara, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Robert and Josephine (Lombardo) Persivale, she grew up in New Jersey and was a graduate of North Plainfield High School.
Emily began her career as a dental hygienist, but after raising three children, changed her career to her passion, selling real estate. Emily was a lifetime member of the Realtor Association. Many memories of Emily were of her rushing to a listing appointment or browsing MLS Books. Most notably, she worked many years at Prudential (now Berkshire Hathaway), located in Clinton, NJ.
Emily’s other passion besides real estate was skiing. She was president of the Plainfield Ski Club and was instrumental in them opening their lodge in Vermont. She won many awards and medals even into her 80’s for her skiing ability and skill. On one of her last ski trips, she was racing in a NASTAR competition. She also prided herself on teaching family and friends how to ski. All winter, you could always find Emily on the slopes in her fashionable ski suits as soon as the lifts started running. She was always on the last chair, and the first in line for après ski. Her passion for the sport led her to travel to Europe and North America to ski. She also ran a ski group and organized yearly trips around the world. Her son Robert has continued with her ski trip legacy. Her annual ski parties in the summers were something to be remembered. She made many lifelong friends through her love of skiing, and many will remember her coming down black diamonds with ease.
Emily leaves behind three loving children; son, Robert Mortara and his wife Marjorie of Alexandria Township, daughter, Laura and her husband Randy Hoff of Harmony, NJ, and son, Rene and his wife Patty Mortara of Delaware Township; cherished grandchildren, Allison & Joseph Lembo & Katie Mortara and her caretaker, Olivia Aggery, devoting five years to keeping Emily happy and comfortable throughout the final stages of her life. The family is eternally grateful for the service and care Olivia gave Emily, who remained by her side until her very last breath.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Wednesday, October 18th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, October 19th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. Committal words and entombment will follow at St. Magdalen Mausoleum in Flemington.
Emily was always the life of any party and will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her. Her family asks that everyone not mourn her death but celebrate her very happy life and do not send flowers but make a contribution in her memory to: Volunteer Guardianship One on One, 188 NJ-31, Flemington, NJ 08822.
