Fall classes and workshops at the Hunterdon Art Museum

The Hunterdon Art Museum is offering a full slate of fall classes designed to ignite the creativity of children and adults. The schedule features 16 new classes and workshops, along with a host of returning favorites.

The HAM faculty includes new and returning artists and educators, professional storytellers, book and fiber artists, and classroom and enrichment teachers.

Here are a few highlights this fall:

Classes for children and teens:

Art From Around the World (starts Monday, Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m.) – Travel the globe and explore different cultures through the world of art. Children ages 4 to 6 will discover artistic traditions through drawing, printmaking, painting and sculpture.

Art + STEM = Steam (starts Thursday, Sept. 15 at 4:30 p.m.) — Explore the intersection of Art with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).  Kids will stretch their minds as they create cool works of art using science and math. From growing crystals and exploring the environment, to learning fish biology and understanding concrete, the possibilities are endless! For children ages 10 to 15.

Animals & Nature Mixed Media (starts Friday, Sept. 16 at 4:15 p.m.) — This mixed media class will focus on animal and nature themes, while kids have fun experimenting with art. We will use a variety of materials to create different outdoor scenes from the icy arctic to the sandy desert. For ages 4 to 6.

Classes and workshops for adults:

Beginning Level Drawing with Whitney Wetherill (starts Monday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.; or Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m.) – Think you can’t draw but want to learn? This class, which we’re offering during the daytime or at night, is for you!  Warm up drawing exercises and weekly lessons will cover basic drawing skills. For ages 16 and up.

Portrait and Figurative Painting with Oscar Peterson (starts Friday, Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m.) — Students will learn the principles of portrait and figure painting through observation of live models. Ages 18 and up.

Learn to Sew with Leah Cahill (starts Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 11:30 a.m.) – This two-day, work-at-your-own-pace workshop covers reading a pattern, measuring and cutting fabric, and the step-by-step process of sewing. Ages 16 and up.

ABOUT THE HUNTERDON ART MUSEUM

The Hunterdon Art Museum presents changing exhibitions of contemporary art and design in a 19th century stone mill that is on the National Register of Historic Places.  Founded in 1952, the Museum is a landmark regional art center showcasing works by established and emerging contemporary artists. It also offers a dynamic schedule of art classes and workshops for children and adults.

Programs are made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and by funds from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, New Jersey Cultural Trust, Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission, The Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason Foundation, Investors Bank, The Large Foundation, The Bunbury Fund at Princeton Area Community Foundation, and corporations, foundations, and individuals.
