This year, patients at Hunterdon Medical Center will use over 2000 units of blood and blood products. Seventy percent of the blood used for patients at Hunterdon Medical Center comes from donors in the community. Summer is always a challenging time for the blood bank to ensure an adequate blood supply. Despite the season, the need for blood remains constant and patients continue to depend on the generosity of blood donors to meet that need.
The Harris House Motel in Ocean City, NJ agreed to provide one free night for a blood donor. If an individual donates blood at Hunterdon Medical Center through September 22nd, he or she will be entered into the giveaway. Donors who have already given during that time frame will automatically be entered. Select travel dates are available and the certificate may not be redeemed for cash.
To be eligible to donate blood a person must be at least 17 years of age, be in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. “We are looking for donors of all blood types,” stated Cathy Conroy, Blood Donor Recruiter at the Hunterdon Medical Center. Conroy said, “Our donors are all special people who give blood only to help others in need. It isn’t every day you can save someone’s life. Most of us can give this gift and keep giving it regularly.”
