On Friday night, September 15th, the annual Central Jersey Jazz Festival will kick off its three-day run in Flemington, the capital of Hunterdon County. Thousands are expected to come out listen to the soulful sounds of renowned musicians will perform on the steps of Flemington’s dramatic, historic County Courthouse in the center of downtown Main Street-
The all-star lineup includes Jeff “Tain” Watts, a three-time Grammy winner and former musician on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno; Lezlie Harrison, an elegant singer and regular curator and present on the jazz station WBGO; andWillie Martinez, one of the most sought-after Latin Jazz drummers who has performed at Carnegie Hall and with Jewel, Faith Hill, and Brandy. The Jazz House Kids, the only community arts organization in New Jersey exclusively dedicated to educating children through jazz, will also perform.
The emcee for the event is jazz impresario Sheila Elaine Anderson, host of Weekend Jazz After Hours and Salon Sessions on jazz station WBGO, and author of three books. More information about the artists and emcee is available here.
Flemington is going to be pulsating with more than jazz. Restaurants will be offering special menus and outdoor seating, and there will be food trucks, a festive beer and wine garden sponsored by Untity Bank, and special offerings from retailers, artists and more.
This will be the fourth consecutive year Flemington has hosted the Central Jersey Jazz Festival. What started off as a one-day, community concert has grown to reach multiple cities and attracti thousands of .a wide geographic area.
The Flemington Community Partnership is the lead sponsor of the Flemington event. The Borough of Flemington, Hunterdon County Cultural Heritage Commission, Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, Flemington Car and Truck Country Family of Dealerships, Stop & Shop, Unity Bank, Verizon and Costco are co-sponsors.
