George Edwin Collins, Jr., 71, of Frenchtown

George Edwin Collins, Jr., 71, of Frenchtown, NJ passed away on January 1, 2018 at Hundred Care Center, in Flemington, NJ.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Rose Marie McCloughan Collins. Loving father of Edward “EJ” Collins. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Phyllis Smith and her husband Arthur; his brother Robert Collins and his wife Anita; brothers-in-law, Joseph McCloughan and his wife Lori; Phillip McCloughan and his wife Sue; Mary Lisa Prall McCloughan, all from Lambertville, NJ, and Paul McCloughan and his wife Rhonda, from Stroudsburg, PA. Dear uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George Collins, Sr. and Wave Collins-Baxter; his brother, Richard Collins; and sister, Wave “Cookie” Allegar; his father-in-law, Frederick McCloughan, Sr.; and brothers-in-law, Frederick McLoughan, Jr., and David McCloughan.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he moved to Frenchtown in 1986, where he lived for 30 years. George worked many different jobs. He worked at Atlantic Springs in Ringoes, NJ, New Hope Bag Mill, in New Hope, PA, at OTC Cracker Factory, in Lambertville, NJ. He also worked at Flemington Block, where he retired in 1985.

George was an honorary lifetime member at Frenchtown Fire, Co. He was also a member of Kingwood Fire Co., Fire Police for both companies for 21 years. George was awarded with Lions Citizen of the Year by the Frenchtown Lions Club in 1999. He was awarded the Mayor’s Award for outstanding civic contribution in 2006. George was a Crossing Guard for many years, which he enjoyed every day. He enjoyed volunteering for any community events in Frenchtown.

George liked going to Flemington Speedway to see dirt racing with his brothers-in-law and friends. He enjoyed playing remote control cars and going for walks with his son EJ. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was always ready with a joke or two. He loved making people laugh, especially children.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frenchtown Fire Company, 31 Second St, Frenchtown, NJ 08825
