Gladys Baskin of Lambertville, NJ, and Hughesville, MD, departed this life on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
Born in Rocky Point, NC, she attended Fayetteville State Teachers College and graduated in 1950 with a BS degree in Education. During her studies, she met her future husband, Charles Baskin. The two were wed in Washington, DC in June 1951 and their union lasted 59 years. Gladys was a pioneer for working mothers, raising 3 children while teaching elementary school full-time. She taught 3rd grade for Prince George’s County Public Schools and retired in 1995 after 40 years. She continued her postgraduate studies at Frostburg University, Bowie State College and George Washington University. Aside from spending time with her family, Gladys was an avid traveler.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Baskin in 2010 and is survived by her children: Charles Baskin (Leslie) of Largo, MD; Angela Bell (Dan) of Tucson, AZ; Lynn Baskin (Erik) of Lambertville, NJ; 7 grandchildren: DaNay, Webster, Crystal, Danique, Christopher, Dana, and Michael; and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 24 from 6:00p – 9:00pm at the Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin Street, Lambertville, NJ. The funeral will continue on Monday, March 27 at the Clinton United Methodist Church, 10700 Brandywine Road, Clinton, MD with viewing from 10:30am – 11:30am with services at 11:30am. A private burial will be held following the service.
