Governor signs Bucco/Space/DeCroce bill assisting veterans through special motorcycle tags

Gov. Chris Christie signed legislation sponsored by Assemblymen Anthony Bucco and Parker Space, and Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce giving veteran bikers the option of purchasing special license plates for their motorcycles.

“Veterans are justifiably proud of their service to our country,” said Bucco (R-Morris). “Thousands of veterans have special tags on their cars denoting their military service, and many have expressed interest in similar plates for their motorcycles. Our military men and women have well-earned this opportunity.”

The fees for the commemorative plates support programs benefiting veterans. The initial fee is $50 and annual renewals are $10.

“Many veterans ride as a group at bike rallies, charity runs, or welcome-home events for returning veterans,” said Space (R-Sussex). “This special plate spotlights their dedication and service while helping to support other veterans.”

Pennsylvania and Maryland offer special motorcycle tags for veterans.

“For veterans who love their country and enjoy traveling New Jersey’s scenic back roads on two wheels, this is deserved recognition,” said DeCroce (R-Morris). “The best part is the fees help veterans who need assistance.”

There are 450,000 veterans in New Jersey.
