Destination Review – GOLF – Lighthouse Sound – Breathtaking – The front nine

http://lighthousesound.com/

For those of you who don’t want to read so much and just want to jump down to the pictures, know one thing, If you are in Ocean City and plan on playing Golf, Put Lighthouse Sound on top of your list, don’t think twice just do it.

It all starts with the staff and these fine gentlemen got the clubs out of the car, cleaned them before I got to the cart and cleaned them again after I did a quick trip to the range. The group I was scheduled to play with were no shows and they shrugged that off and got me in a group with three nice fellows from the PA area who were down for a three day adventure. They made my round very pleasant and we had great laughs all day.

Pace of play, at a very busy course, was excellent, we finished both nines in under two hours which is hard to beat at most places.

Course condition – it all starts with the greens for players of all caliber and these were the best greens out of four courses played in Ocean City. They were pretty fast, about ten and a half on the stimp, and rolled true. If you got it on line with proper pace there was no waiver and the ball went in. It made it very easy to sink those crucial four footers. They also cut the greens in front of us so if you got a good spin on the ball it would hold and even come back a foot or two which is always nice.

Variety of holes – Wow – the front nine is simply beautiful. Every hole has at least a glimpse of the bay and most have full all out views of Ocean City. It was hard to get upset about the occasional wayward shot with such a beautiful setting.

Tee boxes – Some courses are not set up to allow players of all levels to have an enjoyable outing. Not here. The high handicappers playing of the white tees had an opportunity to be on the green in regulation on every hole. The back tees were challenging, with a lot greater angle off the tee than the upper tees but the fairways were generous and there were very few shots that seemed out of the realm of possibility.

Fairways were in great shape, you could hit down aggressively and take a moderate divot to create proper spin. Most were wide and if you hit a reasonable ball you didn’t find trouble even if in your eyes view the water was seemingly everywhere.

Final impression, to my knowledge this is the best course in Ocean City for playability and incredible views.  It would be hard to beat and hard not to recommend highly.

Below are about 30 pictures of the front nine – back nine tomorrow – The third tees sign was missing which is why is doesn’t appear, all the boys in the group mused that it must have been the victim of someone’s first hole in one. Take a gander of the pics, we try to give you views from behind, side hill lies and views of angular greens so you can get a feel of what you can expect. Enjoy, we know that you will.
