Harry J. Cooper, Sr.
HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, NJ – Harry J. Cooper, Sr., 92, of Holland Township, NJ, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Warren Haven Nursing Home in Mansfield Township, NJ.
Born July 13, 1925 in Alden Station, PA, Harry grew up in Nanticoke, PA and lived in Holland Township, NJ for 46 years before moving to Phillipsburg, NJ. He worked for the US Post Office in Flemington, NJ. Prior to that, he worked as a coal worker for 11 years. Harry was an avid musician. He was a drummer in four bands, the Blue Valley Boys and the Stardusters, both out of Wanamie, PA, and Triple City Band of Easton, PA, and the Alpha American Legion Band of Alpha, NJ. Harry was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Milford, NJ.
Son of the late Joseph A. and Letha (Wildoner) Cooper, Harry is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years Eleanor T. Cooper, his two sons Harry J. Cooper, Jr. and his wife Patti of Peachtree City, GA and Gary Cooper, Sr. and his wife Anna of Holland Township, NJ, his two brothers Thomas Cooper of Florida and Joseph Cooper of Holland Township, NJ, his sister Letha Andrews of Holland Township, NJ, and his four grandchildren Sabrina, Brandon, Christin, and Gary, Jr. He was predeceased by his two brothers Richard and Edward and his sister Sarah Jane.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. Interment will follow at the Saint Philip and Saint James Cemetery in Phillipsburg, NJ. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.
