On Monday, February 20, at approximately 11:15 am, a 2006 Dodge Charger operated by Tyler Auburger, age 18, of Hampton struck a 2016 Kia Sorento operated by John Thomas, age 58, of Vineland, from the rear on Route 31 South at the intersection with Halstead Street. After the crash, Mr. Auburger continued driving along Route 31 South until he was stopped by a Clinton Township officer at the intersection with Payne Road. During the stop, the officer noticed that Mr. Auburger appeared to be under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and also detected the odor of burnt marijuana. A search produced eight (8) Xanax pills, marijuana, fireworks, and a pipe with residue. As a result, Mr. Auburger was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Xanax, Possession of Under 50 Grams of Marijuana, Possession of Prescription Drugs Not In Original Container, Being Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Operating a Motor Vehicle While In Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Driving While Intoxicated, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Crash, Failure to Report a Motor Vehicle Crash, and Tailgating.
