HUNTERDON ASSEMBLYMAN DiMaio pro-taxpayer homestead property tax rebate bill advances

Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman John DiMaio simplifying the homestead rebate process today received Assembly State and Local Government Committee approval by a  5 to  0 vote.

“Applying for a homestead rebate can be time consuming and confusing for taxpayers, many of whom have to wade through their files or contact their local tax collectors to find the amount of property taxes they paid in order to qualify,” said DiMaio (R-Warren). “This bill places that burden on the state, making the entire process much easier for property taxpayers.”

The measure (A4162) requires the Director of Division of Taxation to examine the feasibility of a centralized property tax information system. Such as database will allow the state to verify property taxes paid by homestead property tax reimbursement claimants.
