HUNTERDON ASSEMBLYMAN Peterson bill creating a Support Our Veterans license plate clears committee

Homeless veterans will benefit from legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Erik Peterson allowing residents to purchase Support Our Veterans license plates. The bill (A1540) was unanimously advanced today by the Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

“No man or woman who served in the U.S. armed forces should have to live on the street,” said Peterson (R-Hunterdon). “Yet thousands of veterans are homeless. Thankfully in New Jersey we have a program that provides temporary housing, counseling and training to help vets transition to civilian life. Proceeds from these license plates will help fund the facilities. I’m sure many residents will support such an outstanding cause.”

Funds will be earmarked for the Veterans’ Haven program, which operates two around-the-clock facilities. The South Jersey location in Winslow Township can accommodate 99 residents, and the North Jersey facility in Glen Gardner provides housing and services for an additional 100 residents.
