Legislation (A1540) sponsored by Assemblyman Erik Peterson to aid homeless veterans by allowing residents to purchase Support Our Veterans license plates received Assembly approval today.
“We have a duty to those men and women who laid their lives on the line for our country,” said Peterson (R-Hunterdon). “Assimilation from combat to civilian life is not always easy and often requires comprehensive social services that the federal government does not provide. Given the opportunity, I’m sure residents will gladly support this effort knowing the proceeds will fund a program that provides temporary housing, counseling and vocational training to help vets transition to civilian life. It’s an honor to sponsor such an outstanding cause.”
Funds will be earmarked for the Veterans’ Haven program, which operates two around-the-clock facilities. The South Jersey location in Winslow Township can accommodate 99 residents, and the North Jersey facility in Glen Gardner provides housing and services for an additional 100 residents.
