HUNTERDON CENTRAL Superintendent’s Newsletter

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Superintendent’s Newsletter – our multi-media, online quarterly newsletter that provides you with updates on the “state of the school” at Hunterdon Central. This will be the final edition of the newsletter for the 2014-2015 school year.

This has been a year of unique challenges for our Hunterdon Central community.  Perhaps the greatest challenge was our move to a new A/B schedule in September.  While any change can be difficult, the new schedule called for an adaptive change at the heart of how we teach and learn.  We realize that the adjustment was not always easy, and I want to take this opportunity to commend and thank our students and staff for their extraordinary commitment, hard work and positive approach to this change.

This year also found us administering the State-mandated PARCC test for the first time.  Dealing with multiple test dates and multiple snow days, while preserving as much instructional time as possible, was a serious challenge.  I’m very grateful to our staff, who developed a testing schedule that maintained the integrity of our instruction, and to our students and teachers, who “rolled with it” in an exemplary spirit of cooperation.

In this last newsletter, I want to celebrate the outstanding work that has been done by our students this year, in the midst of many new initiatives and challenges.  To share their achievements with you, we’ve included several student showcases that serve as compelling examples of the exceptional talents and abilities that our students possess. We hope you enjoy these glimpses into their life at Hunterdon Central!

We’re also sharing some videos and information that will help our families prepare for the future, in terms of college and career readiness.  Summertime can be the perfect time to start investigating colleges and thinking about career interests.  The two videos we’ve included in this newsletter will allow parents to see the presentations that have been given to our sophomore and junior students this year.  We encourage you to watch the videos, and we hope that they will help to engender conversations with your children about choices for their future.

Graduation is always a bittersweet time for us here at the high school, as we say goodbye to students who have been with us for four very meaningful years.  This year’s graduating class has left its mark on our school culture and will be missed.  As we say goodbye, we invite you to take a look at their final day at Central by viewing a video of their lovely .. and damp … graduation!

It’s also that time of year when we prepare to welcome a new group of students into the high school.  This year, our Red Devil Ambassadors became involved in welcoming and preparing new students for their high school experience.  I would like to thank these outstanding students for visiting our sending districts and creating a video orientation for incoming students and parents.  We hope the video helps you learn a little more about us, and welcomes you into our school.

We hope you enjoy all of the videos and podcasts in this final newsletter of the school year.  If you have any questions, concerns or comments, please let me know: csteffner@hcrhs.org

We wish you and your family a happy, relaxing summer … we’ll see in September!
