Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III, and Chief of Detectives John J. Kuczynski, announced a Hunterdon County Grand Jury returned six separate charges against Frank E. Cabezas on August 25, 2016. The charges stemmed from the March 25, 2016 fatal motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of two Flemington residents and injured three others. All five victims were from the same family and they were returning home from an Easter egg hunt.

Mr. Cabezas was indicted on two counts of 2nd Degree Vehicular Homicide, one count of 3rd Degree Assault by Auto, two counts of 4th Degree Assault by Auto and one count of 3rd Degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

According to Prosecutor Kearns, “Frank Cabezas, age 25, of Whitehouse Station was operating a Ford Explorer traveling south on Rt. 523 at approximately 2:45 PM on March 25, 2016.  The investigation revealed that Mr. Cabezas struck an oncoming Toyota Camry occupied by five family members, two of which were fatally injured. He was not injured in the crash. Bail had been set at $250,000 by the Honorable Bruce Jones, J.S.C. and he was lodged in the Somerset County Jail.”

The Prosecutor added, “The vehicle that Mr. Cabezas struck was occupied by Frank Corso, 79, and his wife, Audrey Corso, 75, both of Flemington. Mr. & Mrs. Corso did not survive the crash. Their son, Gregory Corso, age 43, of Budd Lake, was taken by ambulance to Morristown Medical Center with minor injuries. A 5 year old child was seated in a rear booster seat and was taken to Morristown Medical Center and subsequently released. A 10 year old child was flown by North Star to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick with a possible broken femur.”

The Prosecutor concluded, “This is a terrible tragedy that changed the lives of this family in a split second as they returned home from an Easter egg hunt. We offer our sincerest condolences to the Corso family.”

The filing of criminal charges is just a step in the criminal justice process. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Court of law.
