Hunterdon Healthcare Offers Free Weight Management Program for Kids

The Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Management, Hunterdon Pediatric Associates and the DeerPath YMCA are offering, “Weigh to Go,” a 4-week weight management program for kids ages 7 to 14.  Weigh to Go will be held Wednesdays beginning September 27th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The class will discuss nutrition from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and an exercise class will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The program will meet at the Deer Path Park YMCA, located at 144 Woodschurch Road in Flemington.  The program is free and includes a free 2-month membership to the YMCA. The program is being offered free for September because of the support of the Hunterdon & Mercer County Regional Chronic Disease Coalition.

Weigh to Go will promote changes in food habits, exercise and self-esteem.  Weigh to Go is a non-diet approach to weight loss with emphasis on making changes now that can be sustained long term.  In addition, a qualified member of the YMCA staff will provide supervision and guidance throughout the strength training and cardio-vascular components of the program.

Michelle Wright, a Registered Dietitian at the Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Management, will lead the nutrition portion of the program. This program has limited openings available. Pre-registration is required and a parent must attend with their child.  To register, call the Center for Nutrition and Diabetes Management at 908-237-6920.
