James J. Laciura, age 86, of Alexandria Twp., NJ passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at home.
He was born on August 28, 1930 in Paterson, NJ. He spent his childhood in Paterson before moving to Hawthorne, NJ where he lived for many years. 2 ½ years ago, he moved in with his daughter and son-in-law in Alexandria Twp., NJ.
He was the son of the late Filippo and Francesca Laciura.
His wife, and love of his life, Mary Grace Buonforte Laciura, passed away in 1994.
James was a Paratrooper in the US Army, 82nd Airborne, serving from 1951 to 1954.
Before his retirement, James was a welder for Marcal Paper Products in Elmwood Park, NJ.
James was an avid baseball fan and loved the Mets. He was a full-on handyman and loved starting new projects and constructing things for his granddaughters. He also loved putting together puzzles and taking his granddaughters shopping.
Memberships include St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hawthorne, NJ.
Survivors include his daughter with whom he lived with, Karen Novak and her husband Edmund Novak . Four granddaughters, Lauryn Steiner and her husband Erik, Jaclyn Novak ,Tracy Novak and Carly Laciura. One sister, Kate Gilone of Haledon, NJ.
Predeceased in addition to his wife includes one son, Philip Laciura who passed away in 2007 and four siblings.
Calling hours will be Sunday, September 4th, 2016 from 1pm to 4pm at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Funeral Mass will be Monday, September 5, 2016 at 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 2 Whitebridge Road, Pittstown, NJ. Interment will be private.
