James Sheridan Anthony McGirr died peacefully at home on July 5, 2017. He recently celebrated his 88th birthday in May.
A native born New Yorker, Jim was raised in Bronx NY, and attended St. Simon Stock High School. Jim enjoyed a successful career as an executive assistant with NY Central Railroad, based in midtown Manhattan.
Together for 53 years with his lifelong partner, Charles Lothridge, Jim resided on the upper east side of Manhattan, and in Cape May, NJ where they were proud owners of the “Blue Pig”, a residence originally situated on the site of the historic Congress Hall hotel. In the early 1990’s, Jim and Charles relocated to Bucks County, PA, where they continued to knit a rich fabric of friends. They traveled the world extensively, and enjoyed hosting dinner parties with friends. Jim’s sense of fashion, his innate dancing ability, and his interest in the arts, bespoke of a man with a great sense of style, grace and elegance.
Jim was a faithful parishioner and benefactor of St John the Evangelist, in Lambertville, NJ. Jim is pre-deceased by his partner Charles Lothridge, his mother Helen McGirr (nee Cahill), his father James and his brother, Robert. Jim is survived by his cousin William McGirr of Stamford, CT.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday July 10, at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 44 Bridge St. Lambertville. There will be no calling hours.
