EDGEWATER, FL – Jay Whitman, 83, of Edgewater, Florida, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, FL.
Born March 24, 1932 in Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania, Jay moved to Edgewater in 2001 from his place of birth. A retired maintenance mechanic for Rexham Corporation of Flemington, NJ, Jay served with the U. S. Navy Seabees during the Korean Era. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shrimping. Jay was member of Navy Seabee Veterans of America, Island 19, Daytona Beach and Prosperity Lodge #567, F.&A.M. of Riegelsville, PA.
Son of the late John Edward and Margaret (Culverson) Whitman, Jay is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Grace Whitman, his son Joseph Whitman and his wife Deborah of Neeses, SC, his daughter Judie Emery and her husband Andrew of Hudson, MA, his brother Harry Whitman of Milford, NJ, his sister Edythe Smith of Upper Black Eddy, PA, and his six grandchildren Curtis, Thomas, and Bennett Emery of Hudson, MA, Tyler Whitman of Perkasie, PA, and Ellen and Alyssa Whitman, of Neeses, SC.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11 AM at the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, 24 Church Road, Holland Township, NJ. Interment will follow at the Milford Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
