John Hendershot, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 84 years old on Aug. 16th 2016, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE. John was born on July 23, 1932 in Somerville, NJ. He lived in the Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon area for many years but recently relocated to the Dover, DE area. He is predeceased by his parents John and Ellen Hendershot of Whitehouse Station, NJ and his sister Shirley Chamberlin of Whitehouse Station, NJ, and his step daughter Erika Riccioni.
John graduated from Flemington High School, Class of 1951 and attended Trenton State College. He worked as a Special Police Officer for 12 years for the Readington Township Police Force. He was Director of Activities and Coach at Bonnie Brae School for Boys, in Millington NJ. He coached Little League and the Babe Ruth teams in Whitehouse which he loved very much and still had close contact with former team members. The St Louis Cardinals was his favorite baseball team for his entire life, he enjoyed following and watching this team.
John operated the Whitehouse Roller Rink and Air Park Bowling Lanes for many years in the 1970’s and 1980’s
John and his wife Carol run Country Tours & Travel, a motor coach tour company for many years and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada with their clients.
John is survived by the love of his life, wife Carol Roll-Hendershot, his son John Robert Hendershot (Linda) and his daughter Janet Barclay (Duane), and his sister Patricia Hendershot, and by his step-children Karin Roll and Rick Roll, 17 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and cousins that were very dear.
Calling hour will be Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a memorial service at 12 noon at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Lebanon, NJ.
