Joseph ‘Joe’ Edward Barone Jr., age 86, of Boonton, NJ passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the New Jersey Firemen’s Home in Boonton, NJ.
He was born on November 19, 1929 in South Plainfield, NJ and was a resident of Boonton, NJ for the past 2 years, moving from Keyport, NJ, Oxford, NJ and Annandale, NJ.
Joe was the son of the late Joseph Edward Barone Sr. and Ella Ward Barone.
He was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1951 to 1953 in Korea.
Joe’s spent most of his career working as a Warehouseman for Mack Trucks in Bridgewater, NJ until his retirement in 1985. After he retired, he worked many side jobs as a bartender at The Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station, NJ, Snuffy’s in Scotch Plains, Millers in Annandale, NJ and Old Timbers in Annandale, NJ. He also owned and operated The Dutch Hill Inn in Oxford, NJ for many years.
He was Past President, Secretery and lifetime member of the Annandale Hose Company in Annandale, NJ and also a past member of Oxford Fire Department in Oxford, NJ. He was also and Life Member of the NJ State Fireman’s Association, Past President of Local #229 United Auto Workers and a member of the Union Speakers Association. Joe was also a member of VFW post 5119 in Glen Gardner, NJ and American Legion post 0321.
Joe enjoyed going to casinos, playing on bowling leagues and as a young man he liked playing baseball and was on a Military team.
Survivors include 4 sons; Joseph David Barone and his wife Carmen of Goleta, CA, Peter Barone and his wife Eileen of Ringoes, NJ, Matthew Joseph Barone of Phillipsburg, NJ and Michael Joseph Barone of Oxford, NJ. 2 daughters; Leslie A. Wilchinsky of Vernon, NJ and Mia Johnston and her husband Bill of Upper Black Eddy, PA. 4 grandchildren; Wesley Johnston of Upper Black Eddy, PA, Brielle Wilchinsky of Brooklyn, NY, Orion Wilchinsky of Vernon, NJ and Andrew Barone of Goleta, CA. 1 sister; Lucy Lovero of Keyport, NJ. He is also survived by his second wife; Bonnie Riley of Oxford, NJ.
Predeceased by 1 brother; Cosimo Barone and 2 sisters; Katherine Fedesko and Rosemary Zaremba. He is also predeceased by his first wife Carol Barone who passed away in 2013.
Calling hours will be Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9pm with Firemen’s and last call service at 7:30pm. Funeral Service on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 11am. All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, NJ. Interment will be private.
