Josephine Patricia (Iatesta) Foran, formerly of Lambertville, recently of Englewood, Florida, died peacefully on November 20th, 2015, at the age of 92. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Gerald F. Foran Sr. of Lambertville, who passed away in 1989.
She was the daughter of Giovanni and Mary Iatesta, who operated a grocery store on South Main Street, Lambertville from 1920 to 1970. They also were owners of the Swan Hotel on South Main Street from 1930 to 1953.
She had four brothers, John Iatesta of Ringoes, New Jersey, James Iatesta of Lambertville, Michael Iatesta of Princeton, New Jersey, and Rocco Iatesta of Phoenix, Arizona, all of whom are deceased. She also had two sisters; Rose Hineline of Flemington, New Jersey, and Ann Davis of Lambertville, New Jersey, both of whom are deceased.
She married Gerald Foran Sr. in June of 1946, at St. John’s church. They were married for 43 years until his death in 1989. She was preceded in death by her son, Edward Foran in 1952. She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Foran) Drotar and Charles Drotar of Englewood, FL; Gerald Foran Jr. and Diane (Melton) Foran of Easton PA; Marianne (Foran) Robbins and William Robbins of Lambertville; Patrick Foran Sr. and Jean (Crocoll) Foran of Lambertville. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leo Foran and Bernice (Ward) Foran of Fairless Hills, PA; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and 18 nieces and nephews.
She graduated from St. John’s grammar school in 1937 and attended Lambertville High School from 1937 to 1940. Like many US civilians at the time, she wanted to contribute to the war effort, and she was employed by General Motors Corporation from 1943 to 1945 at the Trenton, NJ plant.
Josephine was primarily a home maker from 1946 to 1975, but occasionally had jobs as a seamstress, a hairdresser, and at one time worked in food preparation at River’s Edge Restaurant in Lambertville. In 1977, she returned to work at General Motors, and worked there until 1993, when she retired.
Josephine lived in Lambertville from her birth in 1923 until April of 2014, when she moved to Florida. She was a life-long member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and had been active in the Altar Rosary Society.
She greatly enjoyed cooking, and particularly enjoyed hosting her extended family and basking in the praise she received for her Italian recipes. The recipes were a rigidly applied and well-guarded process.
She will be greatly missed by her family, not only for her great cooking, but for her verve, vitality and indomitable spirit.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 24 at 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 am – 10:30 am at the Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St. Lambertville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations should be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, c/o St. John’s Church, 13 N. Main St. Lambertville, NJ 08530.
