Hunterdon Medical Center Pulmonologist and Critical Care Specialist, Keith Goldstein, M.D., recently received the Advancing Pharmacy Practice Excellence (APPEX) award from the New Jersey Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The award honors outstanding health care professionals outside the field of pharmacy that have collaborated with pharmacists to advance patient safety and care by promoting best practices. This is the second year in a row that a physician from Hunterdon Medical Center received this honor. Last year it was awarded to Joseph Gugliotta, M.D., Infectious Disease Specialist.
The Clinical Pharmacy Group at Hunterdon Medical Center nominated Dr. Goldstein for this award because his dedication is apparent, not only to his patients, but also the Pharmacy Department and the institution as a whole. His commitment and collaboration has allowed the Pharmacy to grow significantly. Dr. Goldstein consistently demonstrates the core values of the APPEX Award including leadership, team-based approaches, innovative patient-focused pharmaceutical care as well as improvements in patient outcomes. He strives to continuously improve ICU protocols, policies and overall patient management strategies.
Recently, Dr. Goldstein was one of the first physicians at Hunterdon Medical Center to use Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscopy. The ENB procedure combines GPS-like technology with a catheter-based system that uses the patient’s natural airways to access lesions that were previously hard to reach. The procedure allows physicians to evaluate a patient’s lungs and navigate through small airway passages to reach a lung nodule, a mass of abnormal tissue.
Dr. Goldstein has a physician at Hunterdon Medical Center since 1989. In addition to being the Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit, Dr. Goldstein is the Medical Director of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Department at Hunterdon Medical Center, Medical Director of the Hospitalist program, and Chair of Intensive Care Unit.
Dr. Keith Goldstein is a physician with Hunterdon Pulmonary and Critical Care, a specialty office operated by Hunterdon Healthcare. The office is open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The practice participates in most managed care plans. To schedule an appointment, call 908-237-1148.
