Legend of the Sea Glass Author and Illustrator Make a Splash in Frenchtown

Come meet award-winning author Trinka Hakes Noble and celebrated illustrator Doris Ettlinger on May 14 at The Book Garden in Frenchtown, NJ. The duo will be celebrating the launch of their new children’s book, The Legend of the Sea Glass.

Hear the tale of when men feared to venture into the deep ocean waters; when it was believed that the world was flat and to sail beyond the horizon meant tumbling off the edge of the earth. Learn about the magical sea creatures that lived in the ocean and rescued those who risked it all to discover the mysteries of the ocean. Written by award-winning author of 33 books, Trinka Hakes Noble, this beautifully illustrated original legend explains the origin of sea glass, attributing it to the tears of mermaids, weeping for lives lost at sea.

“To help me visualize life under the sea I visited the Ocean dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History. I used the diorama photos to help me create a world for the mermaids that Trinka described as shy and mysterious. I loved having an opportunity to illustrate imaginary creatures,” said Doris Ettlinger. She added, “I am so pleased to have illustrated a second Trinka Hakes Noble story. Our first collaboration was The Orange Shoes.”

Join in the fun at The Book Garden on Saturday, May 14 from 1pm to 4pm for a special celebration of this magical story; refreshments will be served.
