Frenchtown, NJ—Leroy A. Bilgrav, 93, entered eternal life on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, NJ. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ to the late Peter and Emma (Thullesen) Bilgrav, Leroy lived most of his life in Iselin, NJ before settling in Frenchtown ten years ago.
Leroy proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, earning three battle stars during WWII. He was a United States Postal mail carrier for more than twenty years for Woodbridge Township. Leroy was a voracious reader; he could be found reading the sports or political sections of the newspaper and loved learning about history. In addition to being a history buff, he enjoyed television shows such as Jeopardy, Price is Right, Judge Judy and the Wheel of Fortune. He enjoyed the summer harvest of the vegetable garden and would often “help” by eating the veggies; his “helping” with the harvest left his family giggling at his antics. “Pop-pop” adored spending time with his children, cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leroy was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anna (Vuolde) Bilgrav in 2005 and his brother, Robert Bilgrave.
Leroy is survived by his five loving children, Sandy and Bill Buglovsky of Frenchtown, NJ, George and Joann Bilgrav of Manahawkin, NJ, Peter and Julie Bilgrav of Lakewood, NJ, Joann and Thomas D’Agostino of Pipersville, PA and Paul and Jennifer Bilgrav of Robbinsville, NJ. “Pop-pop” will be deeply missed by his fourteen cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Dana, Corey, Courtney, Vincent, Ryan, Peter, Kara, Jessica, Kelsey, Zachary, Garrett and Brooke and four great-grandchildren, Deandra, Lucas, Cameron and Mia. He leaves behind his best buddy, Tanner.
