LETTER – READINGTON PARADE SHOULD NOT BE A POLITICAL PLATFORM

Dear Editor:

As Memorial Day approaches, my father in law, Capt. James P. Mathews, U.S.N., Ret., who spent his entire career in service of this Country, reminded us that it is a day to honor those who have given their lives for their country.  In the words of President Harry S. Truman, which are carved on the World War II Memorial,

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”

The Readington Memorial Day parade has become a wonderful family tradition where the citizens of Readington can come together to remember and honor our fallen heroes and enjoy time with our families. I believe the Memorial Day parade is intended to honor our heroes; no one should use the parade as a platform to campaign for Township Committee.  Liz Duffy, Ben Smith and their families look forward to enjoying the parade and community atmosphere with their families, friends, and neighbors.
