The Assembly agriculture committee today cleared a resolution sponsored by Assemblyman Parker Space and Assemblywoman Gail Phoebus designating the first full week of June as New Jersey Fishing and Boating Week.
“Fishing and boating is a major sector of the state economy,” said Space (R—Sussex). “There are more than 750,000 people who fish in New Jersey waters, spending almost $10 million annually. Promoting this industry will create jobs and increase revenue.”
The resolution (AJR83) calls on the governor to issue a proclamation annually, and directs the Division of Fish and Wildlife to publicize the week across the state.
“These are popular, fun activities. They are also big business,” said Phoebus (R—Sussex). “Prosperous fishing and boating industries help many people provide for their families. We have beautiful lakes, rivers and coastline, and it makes sense to promote ourselves to in-state residents and out-of-state tourists.”
