MAN DOING TRAFFIC SURVEYS INVOLVED IN CRASH ON SHOULDER OF 31

On Wednesday, January 13, at approximately 9:05 am, a 2013 Chevrolet Wagon occupied by Nicholas Mondi, age 62, of North Brunswick, was parked on the shoulder of Route 31 South near Center Street while Mr. Mondi conducted roadway measurements and traffic surveys. The vehicle, which is used for such purposes, had its amber lights and four-way hazard lights activated. At this time, a 2007 Ford pickup operated by Marash Jakaj, age 52, of Clinton, was traveling Route 31 South when the Jakaj vehicle traveled onto the shoulder and struck the Mondi vehicle from the rear. The airbags in the Jakaj vehicle deployed and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Mr. Mondi suffered apparent minor injuries. Mr. Jakaj was issued a motor vehicle summons for Careless Driving.
